Fue en el año 1931 en el que se creó
la primera guitarra eléctrica del mundo, esta fue conocida como Frying Pan
(Sartén), este instrumento, creado por George Beauchamp y Adolph Rickenbacker,
a diferencia de las guitarras actuales, estaba pensada para ser tocada sobre un
atril o mesa (Musicanarias, 2016).
El primer bajo eléctrico de la
historia, creado en 1936, fue el Audiovox Model 736 Electronic Bass,
creado por Paul Tutmarc y a diferencia de la primera guitarra eléctrica, este
fue diseñado para tocarse de forma horizontal, tal y como se acostumbra a tocar
en la actualidad (Miche, n.d.).
Décadas más tarde, se pueden encontrar
modelos de cuerpo sólo como los diseñados por Fender, por ejemplo, las guitarras
Telecaster y Stratocaster; o los bajos Precision Bass y Jazz Bass. Por otro
lado, también existen modelos de cuerpo semi-sólido, como los creados por
Gibson, como la guitarra Gibson Les Paul o el bajo EB-1 (Mass y Mass Bass,
n.d.). Diseños de los que derivan gran parte de los modelos actuales de
guitarras y bajos eléctricos.
