Los orangutanes son primates homínidos del género Pongo (Wikipedia, n.d.) y en la actualidad existen tres subespecies: el orangután de borneo (Pongo pygmaeus), el de sumatra (Pongo abelli) y el de Tapanuli (Pongo tapanuliensis). Son originarios de Indonesia y Malasia, se distinguen del resto de los grandes simios por su pelaje rojizo y por si carácter solitario.

Los orangutanes se han caracterizado por ser primates de naturaleza amigable (Kate, 2015), entre ellos y con los seres humanos, son unos animales muy afectivos y han llegado a generar vínculos muy fuentes con algunos humanos. Debido a la deforestación, varios orangutanes viven en reservas.

Orangutans are hominid primates of the genus Pongo (Wikipedia, n.d.) and there are currently three subspecies: the Bornean orangutan (Pongo pygmaeus), the sumatran (Pongo abelli) and the Tapanuli (Pongo tapanuliensis). They are native to Indonesia and Malaysia, they are distinguished from the rest of the great apes by their reddish fur and by their solitary nature.
Orangutans have been characterized by being primates of a friendly nature (Kate, 2015), among themselves and with humans, they are very affectionate animals and have come to generate very sources links with some humans. Due to deforestation, several orangutans live in reserves.
