Linguistic circle of Prague and Moscow
  • What was the Prague Language Circle? What was the Moscow Linguistic Circle?

The Linguistic Circle of Prague and Moscow, (Gallardo Paúls, 2010; Academic, n.d.; Domínguez Caparrós, 2002) are two of the great references of modern linguistics, in this group were great linguists such as Roman Jakobson and Nikolai Trubetskói among others, all under the influence of Ferdinand de Saussure and in favor of studying the language from a functionalist point of view. First there was the Moscow Linguistic Circle, but with Jakobson's arrival in Prague in 1920 and with the publication of a theory on the Czech verse, it was formed in 1926 and the Prague Linguistic Circle was consolidated in 1930, dissolved in 1939 for the invasion of Germany to Czechoslovakia in the framework of the Second World War.
