• Similarities and differences between alchemy and chemistry

Alchemy (Area Ciencias, n.d.), from a certain point of view, is the precursor of modern chemistry (Silveira, n.d.; Fernández, 2009), because thanks to the advances of the ancient alchemists, several of the chemical elements, reactions and instruments used today are known. Alchemy, with its search for the philosopher's stone and the elixir of life, achieved in the past several advances of what we now know as the pharmaceutical industry and several of the transmutations that the former alchemists sought to perform are what we now know as chemical reactions. Alchemy today, although historically it is important and in the past was considered science, today it is considered a belief to use some esoteric principles, however, chemistry is distinguished mainly from the old alchemy to be a science, since It aims to explain some phenomena of nature, such as the composition, structure and properties of matter.
