Rockbox (Garrison, 2010; Latorre, 2008; Rockbox, 2014) is an open source firmware made for hardware music players, such as iPod, Sansa or Rokr, this system began to be created since 2001, one of its main features, is to support more formats than they bring factory most of the supported players, this firmware also allows software extensions, such as plugins and games, thanks to this software you can extend the useful life of the supported players.
To install it, there are instructions on the official page, as well as the full list of supported devices.
It has also been ported to Android as an application.
