On the internet you can find some free sound effects, that are under Creative Commons license and others that have expired copyright, this means, that they can be used freely, as long as the license type is respected, some ask for attribution, others are for strictly use not commercial. Some of this free sound effects are in the website of the free sound project (Freesound, 2014), site that includes a search engine, it should be noted that most are royalty free, that is, apart from being free download, there is no need to pay for their use.

Update: Premium Beat (2017) brings us a pack of 120 sound effects, which can be used in both personal and professional projects and Ghosthack (2020) has some free sound effects available on its website, also loops and payment material. On the other hand, Facebook (2020) and YouTube (2020) also have sound and music effects available for content creators.
